Best Free Social Icons, Part IV: 3D Icons

This issue of the Best Free Social Icons series is devoted to 3D icons. This time I had to use a different approach to selecting the best free icon sets. Since three-dimensional icons are unlikely to fit into many interfaces, I decided to forget about usability for a while and see them as a showcase of designers’ skills only. So, here is the list of the most beautiful free collections of 3D social icons.

To tell the truth, I’m a bit confused about the first entry in this list: Icons Social Snow by Sultan-Design and Social Cubes by Oindrila Mukherjee look 100% identical. Compare two Delicious icons below and try to find the differences yourself.

(Note: Icons Social Snow include the “ice-free” versions of all icons. Social Cubes include vector sources of all icons in Adobe Illustrator format and the license allows using this vector artwork for creating any derivative works.)

You may also compare the above two sets with Free Vector Social Bookmarks icons by Mauricio Duque released back in 2007.

SocialNetworks series by Antialiasfactory

As its name implies, this is not a set, but rather a series of separately released icons. It includes just 5 icons so far (StumbleUpon, Delicious, YouTube, Hi5 and uTorrent), but all 5 look very impressive (at least in high resolution and on the dark background).

This old collection contains 6 icons (RSS, Reddit, Twitter, Delicious and StumbleUpon) and source files in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator formats. There is also a nice tutorial explaining how to design the StumbleUpon icon in Illustrator.

Relatively simple, but a very cute icon set which is far more usable than orevious sets in this review.

Arguably the most widely used set of 3D social icons (you might have seen them on a number of blogs yourself). Includes source files in 3D Studio MAX and Adobe Photoshop formats.
